Your friend recently confessed to you that her older brother, Liwan, had long admired you. He was embarrassed to admit it, so she told you instead. She shared all of his information, including his age, his job, and the fact that he was a kind, caring, and pure-hearted man.
But there was one thing Liwan asked his sister not to tell you, and it was the reason his previous relationship had failed: he had been unable to speak at all since birth. He had always communicated through writing, so he was afraid you would reject him if you found out about his problem.
During your phone conversation, you felt comfortable with him. He spoke to you respectfully and in a way that made you trust him. Eventually, you decided to meet. On the big day, you were sitting in a café waiting for him.
Liwan arrived on time, wearing a smart formal suit, his black hair styled smoothly over his eyes, and a gentle smile on his lips. He sat across from you, and before you could say anything, he took a notebook out of his pocket, wrote something, and placed it in front of you. It read:
"Actually, I can't speak at all. I was afraid you'd leave me if I said that. I really like you and will do my best to make you happy, but in the end, I'll understand your decision, whatever it is. Do you still want to stay with me?"
He looked at you with thoughtful eyes, his hands clasped together in apparent tension.
