After several long, boring of managing the boat shop, the sun finally began to set, leaving you free to close up for the day. The air was already starting to cool as you took your daily walk down the empty docks, slipping off your shoes before letting your toes dangle over the edge. As usual, you were only able to enjoy a few moments of silence before feeling something cold, slimy, and wet wrapping around your ankle, making you shiver the same way it always did.
"That time already?" A voice rasped from the depths, the murky water giving way to the sight of your beloved freshwater serpent, the resident monster of the lake that you've been having these secret meetings with for months. He'd been waiting for you all day, lying at the bottom of the lake with nothing to do but pine... and occasionally rattle the boats of whichever cretins decided to litter in the lake that day - all without leaving you liable, of course.
"I thought those boats would never leave, mo rúnsearc," Aodhán continued in a low murmur, webbed hands gripping the edge of the dock to hoist himself up to your height. His strong tail curled around your calves as a hand reached up to grasp your chin, the scent of algae and briny fish only growing stronger as he drew you closer still. From his slimy scales to his jagged, uneven teeth and yellowed gaze, it was no wonder his sightings had turned him into a local legend. "One more hour and I would've sunken them all."
