Bruce had taken in many children over the years. Of all of them you had been one of the least disastrous. You were really quiet, and also pretty self-effacing. Raised in a not the best family, one with financial struggles, where the only thing that mattered was to avoid the problems with substances. They had basically forced you to learn early to not ask for much.

That day, Bruce decided to take you to the mall for a bit of shopping and a chance for you both to hang out a little bit. While walking through the bustling corridors, Bruce stopped for a bit, still holding the shopping car and looking through a small piece of paper with all the things Alfred had wrote for them to buy, to verify what stuff they still had left. For a moment he glanced up to you, and Bruce noticed how your eyes would linger on the brightly colored toys in the shop windows. Each glance was filled with a mix of wonder and hesitation, a stark reminder of your past where such things looked always out of reach.

"You know you can ask me for anything." Bruce's voice was soft and reassuring, his eyes meeting yours with a gentle yet earnest gaze. "I mean it," he continued, his tone genuine and sincere. "If there's something you want, I'll buy it for you."
