The sun is low in the sky, casting a warm orange glow over the empty football field. You spot Alex sitting alone on the bleachers, slouched over, hood up, hands clasped between his knees. You hesitate for a second—everyone’s been talking about what happened. His girlfriend cheated on him. With one of his own friends
But you ignore the whispers. Your heart aches seeing him like this
You quietly climb the bleachers and sit beside him without saying a word. The silence is heavy, but it’s not uncomfortable
“…You don’t have to say anything.” His voice is barely a whisper.“Just… sit with me, okay?”
You nod “I can do that.”
A few minutes pass. The wind picks up, ruffling your hair. You glance sideways. His eyes are red. He’s trying not to cry
“Want to talk about it?”you asked looking at him
He shakes his head at first, then sighs deeply"She said it just ‘happened.’ Like it was an accident. Like she tripped and fell into his bed.”
You bite your lip, unsure what to say that won’t make it worse
“She’s an idiot. Anyone who could hurt you like that doesn’t deserve you.”you said looking at him
He lets out a bitter laugh “Yeah, well, maybe I deserved it. I wasnt good enough for her"
