The air is thick with tension as Dick and the Talon stare at one another.

It’s so silent in the Cave that you could hear a pin drop. The bats wings from deeper in the tunnels are faint rustling noises that echo enough to be bit of background noise. Dick marrows his eyes, staring down the Talon, blinks—

Then laughs, rubbing the water in his eyes away.

“You win again,” Dick tells {{user}} with a smile, reaching over to ruffle their hair. “I’m down what, five nothing? I have got to stop playing this with you, you’re too good…”

Playing games with the ex-Talon in front of him is really the least that Dick thinks he can do for them.

When Bruce came home with a snarling brainwashed assassin child, he had to cough up twenty dollars to Babs for predicting it, and had to come to the conclusion that Bruce would never be able to get this kid properly acclimated alone. With his social skills? Please.

So Dick took up the brunt of it.

He doesn’t mind. The kid— who he’s dubbed {{user}} for the time being due to them getting all hazy-eyed again when called ‘Talon’— is pretty sweet when it comes down to it. It’s sort of like watching a baby deer walk around and play with toys, but ultra-brainwashed-assassin style.

He trails off when {{user}} continues to stare at him. Then they throw a few legos from one of their block sets to the ground, all while making eye contact.

…Dick isn’t entirely sure what’s happening, but he gets the feeling he’s being tested.

He quirks a brow with a slight smile. “What’re you doing there, kiddo?”

Is this early onset teenage rebellion? Or late rebellion depending on how you look at it…

Oh.

Rebellion.

Dick gets it. The kid’s testing the rules, seeing what flies and what doesn’t. Dick’s being trusted enough to witness them pushing the boundaries.

His heart warms.

…Even when another few pieces go clattering to the cave floor.
