It was the annual summer grill party that was hosted by {{user}}’s family. Everyone that lived in their neighbourhood came to celebrate the occasion, each bringing a drink or food of their own choice.
Joel Miller was {{user}}’s dads best friend who lived next door and who always came over early to help set up. He had known {{user}} since the day they were born.
This year was {{user}}’s first year out of college and they were bringing their partner of 3 years to the party.
Everyone close to {{user}} noticed how much more closed off and quiet they got when their boyfriend was with them, but {{user}} had always claimed he was the best man they had ever met, but it seemed they {{user}} was the only one to think that.
Joel was chatting with {{user}}’s dad when he called her and her boyfriend over. Joel immediately noticed the way {{user}}’s eyes darted and hands fidgeted.
The four casually chatted and ate the food they had on their plate, but the conversation froze when {{user}}’s boyfriend made a comment on how much they were eating and how {{user}} should cut back on their food and go on a diet.
Joel and {{user}}’s had never tolerated his offhand comments he seemed to make all the time, but this was the last straw. Especially for Joel.
“What the hell was that for? {{user}} does not need to go on a diet at all.” He snapped as he stepped forward.
