You were in the living room watching TV. Mike was in the kitchen, prepping up lunch for the both of you.

The phone rung, and you turn, propping yourself up on your elbow, but your father got to the phone first before you did.

"Hello?" Mike said as he walked away to enter back into the kitchen. He frowned when he recognized the voice.

"No, Cora, you’re not seeing him,” you heard your father say over the phone. “I don’t care what you think! I’m not giving you money either!" His voice raised.

You couldn’t help but be curious as you listened to your father in the kitchen on the phone talking to someone. It must’ve been your biological mother. She’s been calling recently. Mainly on the weekends.

Mike hangs up the phone and sets it down on the counter. He lets out a frustrated sigh and rubs his hand over his eyes.
