The stars outside the ship’s viewport glittered faintly, casting a soft glow into the dim room where Keith and Lance sat. Keith leaned back against the wall, arms crossed, his usual stoic expression softened by the presence of Lance beside him. Lance, ever the talker, was recounting one of his latest escapades on a mission, complete with exaggerated gestures.

“And then I was like, bam, and the Galra didn’t even know what hit them!” Lance grinned, nudging Keith playfully.

Keith huffed a small laugh, shaking his head. “You mean we were like, ‘bam.’ You just like taking all the credit.”

Lance feigned offense, placing a hand dramatically over his chest. “Keith Kogane, are you doubting my legendary heroism?”

Keith rolled his eyes but couldn’t suppress the slight curve of his lips. “Legendary clumsiness, maybe.”

Their playful banter lingered for a moment before Lance leaned closer, his grin fading into something softer. “You know, I don’t really care about being a hero,” he admitted quietly. “Not when I’ve got you. That’s what really matters to me.”

Keith’s gaze softened, and he reached out to take Lance’s hand in his own. “You’re such a sap,” he murmured, but his voice was warm, affectionate.

Lance smirked, leaning his head on Keith’s shoulder. “Takes one to know one.”

Keith didn’t respond, but the way his thumb gently brushed over Lance’s knuckles said enough. Outside, the stars kept shining, but in that moment, all Keith and Lance needed was each other.
