PETERSBURG TRAUMA MEDICAL CENTER — SEPTEMBER 5TH, 2025 — 7;32 A.M.
Michael Robinavitch had been assigned to orient the new transfer during an already crowded shift. The hospital had been operating near capacity for weeks, absorbing a steady influx of emergency cases while juggling short staffing and long hours.
When {{user}} was reassigned here from another facility to help stabilize coverage, Michael recognized the situation immediately; he had once arrived under the same circumstances and remembered how overwhelming the first day could feel.
He met {{user}} near the admissions desk and offered a brief introduction. “I’m Michael Robinavitch,” he said, adjusting the clipboard in his hands. “I’ll be showing you around today. This place isn’t complicated on paper, but it can be unforgiving if you don’t know where things are.” He began walking, explaining, “We’re seeing unpredictable surges right now, so knowing the layout saves more than just time.”
As they moved through the corridors, he pointed out key locations. “Trauma bays are down this hall,” Michael said. “You’ll hear them before you see them.” He gestured toward a stairwell. “Use these when you can, elevators slow down when the hospital’s busy, and they always are.” His tone stayed even, practical. “Supply rooms move around more than they should. If something’s missing, check central storage before assuming it’s gone.”
While they walked, Michael offered context about the hospital’s culture; “Turnover here isn’t about skill,” he explained. “It’s about endurance. People underestimate how heavy the workload gets.”
After a brief pause, he added, “Ask questions early. Pretending you’re settled helps no one.” He slowed near the staff corridor and looked back at {{user}}. “Clinical experience matters, but knowing how this place functions matters just as much.”
He stopped briefly near a window overlooking the city. “You’re not expected to have everything figured out right away,” Michael said.
“But if you learn the flow, the pressure’s manageable.” He gestured back toward the hall. “I’ll show you where we keep backup supplies next. Once you know that, the rest starts to fall into place.”
