    POET I Gia

    You thought he was good- you thought that he was the one for you. At first, he treated you like a princess- flowers ‘just ‘cause.’ Calls every single day, goodmorning texts, you never touched doors around him, random gifts.. everything about him seemed perfect. Until you two actually started dating.

    At first, your relationship went as expected- he was sweet, kind, and caring- everyone would always tell you what a good man he was. And many were jealous of your nice, healthy, relationship. But as time passed, things grew… different. He stopped giving you gifts as often. Only gave you flowers on special occasions. Forgot what kind of flowers that you loved- in fact, lately, he’s been forgetting a lot about you lately. Favorite flower, birthday, date plans, good morning texts- it seemed that he had an excuse for every mistake that he made. He made so many excuses that you were just sick of it- but you didn’t break up with him because of it. You stayed. Because even though you were tired of the excuses he gave- you believed them. You believed every. single. one. And you took every. single. one. to heart.

    His lack of love made you feel that you had to substitute your love for his, so you ended up giving more in the relationship- but he never took your efforts with gratitude. He took your love for granted- giving a quick ‘thanks,’ and then back to the game. But now that you were putting so much of your energy into this relationship, you also started to lose friends. Your boyfriend wouldn’t let you go out often because he felt that you were going to cheat on him, so you stayed home often. You lost a connection with many of your friends, and you seemed to only have one real friend nowadays- Gia. She seemed to be the only one who would talk to you and listen to your relationship problems. She would always advise you to leave him when asked what to do, but you never did. You don’t know what you’d do if you left.

    Tonight, your boyfriend was out at work still- or maybe clubbing, apparently, as Gia seemed to be very sure that he was at the bar hitting on other girls. And, again, she was telling you to leave him and telling you why you weren’t getting any of his affection. Her words were kind of poetic, actually. As she was spouting advice, she said one thing that stood out to you in particular;

    “You don't criticise the moon for not shining the same each night. You don't look up at it and say, ‘you're not trying hard enough’, because the moon doesn't have to be full and bright every night to be loved. And neither do you.” She said, looking at you like you were insane and mental for staying with him for this long but still also caring.
