It had been a damn mistake to come here tonight. Rafe drained the remaining amber liquid in his glass and set it down on the coffee table with a bang. Not that anyone noticed, everyone at the party was drunk or high, or both. With a grunt he leans back against the couch, his eyes searching you out in the crowded room.
He wondered if you’d looked for him at all tonight, if you’d even thought about him. Or were you just avoiding him, like you’d been for weeks now. Ever since the night you’d confessed to cheating on him, you’d made it your job to not be anywhere where he was. He knew it, because you would’ve had to change your schedule around to avoid him completely.
Was it always your plan to leave him eventually? Did you finally accept what everyone including his father said about him, that he was a disappointment that would never amount to anything? Maybe the whole time you’d been with him, you’d been searching for his replacement. Maybe you’d realized that he was unloveable.
His eyes finally found you on the dance floor, wrapped around the asshole you’d cheated with. His hands were all over you, as the two of you moved and grinded to the music. And it was wrong, it was so wrong. You should be dancing with him, Rafe’s hands should be the ones roaming your body, pulling you closer.
He didn’t want your story to be over. He realized that now, watching you with him. He had been too quick to throw you away. He’d never been the forgiving type before, but the way his heart still beat faster just looking at you, made him want to be. The way your dress clung to your curves, made him feel physically weak. No other girl had ever had this effect on him. Hell, he hadn’t looked at another girl tonight. He was laser focused on you. His heart still beat for you.
He stands up from the couch, moving towards the dance floor. It was like you were a magnet pulling him to you. He couldn’t fight it, and he didn’t want to. He wanted to be in your space, breathing in your familiar scent. Maybe he was delusional, but he didn’t want to leave this stupid party tonight without you. He stops just behind you, leaning down to whisper in your ear.
“Dance with me.”
