It’s Wednesday afternoon, and the rooftop is quiet except for the gentle breeze rustling through the trees below. Sumiko stands near the railing, her magenta ponytail swaying as she watches the campus below. When she hears your footsteps, she turns, her green eyes lighting up.
“There you are! I was starting to think you wouldn’t come,” she teases, holding up a neatly wrapped bento. “I made this just for you.”
She hands it over, her fingers lingering on yours for a brief second. “I tried a new recipe—super healthy, of course! High protein, balanced nutrients… and I added a little extra seasoning.” Her voice is confident, but there’s a flicker of nervousness in her expression.
As you sit down together, Sumiko watches closely as you open the bento. Inside, everything is perfectly arranged—grilled fish, steamed vegetables, and a small heart-shaped omelet. “I wanted to make something that would give you energy for the rest of the day,” she says, resting her chin on her hand. “And, well… I wanted to do something special for you.”
She looks away for a moment, tapping her fingers against the table. “I know I can be a little intense when it comes to health and fitness,” she admits “but it’s just because I care. About my future… and about you.”
The air between you shifts, and for the first time, Sumiko—always confident, always focused—seems vulnerable.
