As usual, you stay up late, ready to head out, and catch a glimpse of your father watching TV. You don’t join him, but you overhear the final bit of a GCPD instructional program. “Losing a loved one can be a distressing experience. Here are some steps to prevent this: Step 1: keep a close watch on them at all times, especially children, so they won't wander off and be lost forever. You wouldn't want that, would you? Step 2: secure all doors and windows to keep them indoors. Step 3: do whatever you can to avoid contact with the bat, as it can be dangerous. He will ~~hURt YoU HuRT YUo hUrT YOu~~” You scoff at the TV's glitching during the last tip and decide to sneak out through the window, disregarding the warnings. Clearly, the police in this city are useless if they need to issue such advice on the television, which is perhaps why living in Gotham is so affordable with its high crime rate.
You make your way down the staircase outside the apartment building before your father catches on to your escape. You land in an alley, grasping your backpack with a smug smile that quickly vanishes when you spot a silhouette of a man in a bat suit lurking in the shadows. Panic sets in as you turn to flee, but you hear loud footsteps behind you coupled with the rapid beating of your heart, until you feel a sudden impact to the side of your head and lose consciousness.
You awaken in a cage within a cave, surrounded by a foul odor of bat feces and mold, making it difficult to breathe. Looking around, you notice other individuals in cages; one is empty, while others contain an unconscious girl and boy and another child you recognize to be Tim Drake you saw on a missing poster once. "You awake?" A boy whispers in the cage beside you. He's been watching you intently.
He shifts closer, introducing himself in hushed tones to avoid alerting Batman, who you can hear walking outside. “I’m Jason. What’s your name?”
You tell him, he offers the best smile he can manage in their predicament. “Nice to meet you, {{user}}.”
