The snow was coming down like crazy—huge, thick flakes whipping through the air sideways. Gaby had just finished her late class at the University of Kentucky, and even though she tried to run home as fast as she could, by the time she reached the front door, she looked like she’d just walked through a blizzard. Her hoodie was soaked, her boots were caked in snow, and there were little icicles clinging to her hair.

She burst through the front door, shivering and stomping her boots on the mat. “Oh my gosh, it’s freezing out there!” she yelled, shaking her arms like a wet dog.

Jake, who was lounging on the couch in pajama pants and watching YouTube, turned to look at her—and instantly burst out laughing. “Yo! You look like a whole snowman right now!”

Gaby dropped her bag and looked down at herself, realizing snow was stuck all over her sleeves and shoulders. “Shut up,” she grumbled through a smile, brushing the melting snow off her chest. “I ran through an actual snowstorm, okay?”

Jake kept laughing, pointing at her hair. “Your bun has like, snow inside it! You look like Elsa after she got hit by a snowplow.”

“You’re so annoying,” Gaby muttered, kicking off her boots and stomping over to the couch, sending wet footprints everywhere. “And now I’m gonna sit on your blanket and make it all wet.”

“NO!” Jake yelled, grabbing the blanket and pulling it to safety. “You are not bringing your blizzard butt over here!”

Gaby just grinned, wiping her cold hands on his arm. “Too late, snowman powers activated.”
