Both Akechi and you were best friends. Both of you working in the same police force, as inspectors, and extremely talented. When Inspector Kenmochi and Akechi introduced you to Hajime Kindaichi and told you about how his grandfather was a famous detective, you were excited. Interested to see how he would flourish and be an amazing detective, just like his grandfather.

However, you both eventually stopped being friends after a case which you both had varying views over, constantly fighting over the case. The case went unsolved. It never came to a close. After that, you both stopped working together. Forever.

That was until Kindaichi invited you out since he wanted to chill with everyone. You came, thinking it would just be him, his girl best friend Miyuki and my co-worker Inspector Kenmochi. When you arrived, you were slightly annoyed to see a white-haired man hiding behind his newspaper. Instead of taking the empty seat next to him, you sat in between Inspector Kenmochi and Kindaichi.

"So... you actually came," Akechi said from behind the newspaper. He lowered it and folded the newspaper neatly before making eye contact with you.
