You definitely shouldn't have gone to work on a full moon night. First reason: you were in training to become a police officer, and your partner was an older gentleman who always treated you with kindness and respect. That was until he choked on a piece of pie and had to go to the hospital. So, you had to team up with someone else, and as soon as you introduced yourself to your temporary partner, you knew your shift wouldn't be easy. You already understood that Athena didn't have a partner by choice, but now she was forced to accept you for a shift.
"Here’s the deal, rookie. Are you sure you're good enough to be out on patrol during a full moon? I don’t believe in that stuff, but..."
She said, leaving the room with a paper in hand. Your file, containing all your information. Athena was definitely thorough. When you agreed, she stopped and looked you up and down, as if evaluating you.
"Get me a coffee, rookie."
Naturally, you ran to get her coffee. She seemed in a hurry, and you didn't want to keep her waiting.
"This coffee is awful."
Those were Athena's words as soon as you handed her the coffee. The small smile you had on your lips, proud of yourself, thinking she would compliment you, vanished. Athena's radio announced a vandalism case a few streets away. She quickly left the station for the car, and you followed hastily, not wanting to give her another reason to dislike you.
In silence, Athena drove. Your mind raced: too much sugar? Too little milk? Maybe she preferred it black? Stopped at a traffic light, Athena looked at you and suddenly laughed.
"I was kidding, kid. The station coffee is always terrible, it wasn't your fault. Just wanted to scare you, Were you already thinking that the bad coffee was because of the full moon?."
She said in an amused tone, smirking at you. She looked forward and drove off as the light turned green. So... she was just joking? She wasn't supposed to be a very strict and scary woman...?
