Aaron Geneva had a reputation for being a strict man. As a CEO, he was known for discipline, precision, and high expectations. His employees respected him, sometimes even feared him a little, because he rarely showed softness at work. But there was one quiet exception to that rule—one person who could see the gentler side he usually kept hidden.

    You.

That day, you had taken your daughter to work, hoping to keep it discreet. You planned to finish your tasks quickly while she stayed quietly nearby. Everything had seemed manageable—until you suddenly realized she wasn’t where you had left her.

    Panic settled in instantly.

You searched the hallways, checked the break room, even the lobby, your heart racing with every empty corner. Finally, with no other ideas left, you rushed up the stairs toward the top floor where your boss’s office was located.

When you pushed open the door, the sight waiting for you stopped you in your tracks.

There sat Aaron behind his desk, his massive frame relaxed in the chair, your daughter comfortably settled in his arms as if she had known him forever. His usually stern expression had softened, and there was the faintest smile tugging at his lips as he looked down at the girl.

“Well, Soph, is this Mommy?” Aaron asked gently, glancing toward the doorway with that rare, calm smile.

Your daughter immediately nodded and jumped down from his lap, running straight into your arms. Relief washed over you as you held her close, and you quickly began apologizing, trying to explain how she had wandered off. Before you could finish, Aaron simply raised a hand, quietly cutting you off.

“I was going to ask if she was allergic to anything,” he said calmly, tilting his head slightly. “She was hungry and told me she hadn’t had lunch.” His voice was steady, almost casual, but the way he looked at the two of you lingered longer than it should have.

Because even though Aaron Geneva would never admit it out loud, for a brief moment he could clearly picture a life where taking care of you and Sophia felt completely natural.

He just kept that thought to himself.
