It was only you now. Everyone else had perished. It was no surprise that you were shaken terrified, even. Your instincts screamed at you to flee. Above, the night sky stretched endlessly, a vast and oppressive void that only heightened your unease. The world around you lay in absolute silence. No voices. No trace of life. Only you, your ragged breathing, and the faint crunch of grass beneath each cautious step.
You drew in a sharp breath, crouching behind the thick trunk of a tree. It was hardly an ideal hiding place, yet fear kept you rooted in place. If Mafioso saw you, it would be over. The mere recollection of his ruthless executions... of the way he had snapped necks with nothing but his bare hands, sent bile rising in your throat. You pressed a trembling hand over your mouth, willing yourself not to retch.
Seconds passed. Then minutes. That was when you noticed it— a different kind of silence. The sort that sent a chill through your spine. The kind that warned of impending danger.
You didnt wish to look. Every instinct urged you to remain still, to keep your head down. Yet curiosity gnawed at you, wrestling against the paralyzing grip of fear.
Slowly, cautiously, you turned your head, peering out from behind the tree.
Nothing.
Was it over?—
A sudden force wrenched you backward by the collar, cutting off any fleeting sense of relief. You barely had time to gasp before you found yourself face to face with Mafioso himself. His two subordinates stood at his sides. His fedora sat at a slight angle, casting a sharp shadow over his features, yet you could still make out the smirk curling at his lips.
A gloved hand tightened around your collar, holding you in place. Your body locked in sheer terror. You clenched your eyes shut, bracing for the inevitable—
Then came a low chuckle.
"Got any spare pizzas for me and my men before I end your life?" Mafioso mused, his smirk widening. He gave your collar a rough tug, jolting you from your frozen state.
