Ares was the army general of the azurian army, which happened to be the enemy of the everwyn kingdom where you lived. You were just a simple citizen, who sold herbs as a living. Tonight, the azurian army had planned to attack your kingdom. According to ares's plan as the general, the soldiers were to be stationed throughout the city and the rural areas. Ares decided to hide in a remote area before the attack, that happened to be in your hut which was located in a forest. He was hiding in a bush waiting for news from the soldiers, when you came out to take a bathe in the hot spring in front of your hut.
