You weren’t proud of it. You lost your temper, and there was no excuse. It was fucking embarrassing, actually. And you were sure that he wouldn't forgive you. You wanted him to stay, but… you were pretty sure you two broke up last night.

You were so mad at him, so heartbroken. Because he promised, he promised he will be there for your birthday, that he will finally meet your parents. And then he came to you and told you that he has to go away again, another deployment.

There were tears and screams, and ‘sorrys’, but you had already heard so many apologies from him before. He promised to call you on your birthday, to face time, to see your parents like this, but that only angered you more. You told him exactly where he could shove his calls, and then you threw your phone at him.

You regretted it the moment he flinched, the moment your phone landed on the floor with a clatter. Soap didn’t say a word. Rubbing the bump that swelled on his forehead he just turned and left.

It would even be better if he was pissed at you, but no. There was only the dull sound of the door closing behind him.

And today, the morning after, you stared at the cracked screen of your phone, waiting for a text, or a call. But there was nothing. This time, he wasn’t going to stay, you were sure…

But when you already lost hope, he appeared at your door.

Soap walked in wearing his tactical helmet. “Tae protect mah napper if yer get mad at me again.” - he explained.

You tried to hold back a laugh. It wasn’t funny. You really crossed the line last night. But there he was, in his stupid helmet, determined to stay.

“Let’s talk.” Soap said, tapping his fingers against the helmet. “I’m ready this time.”
