Much of Maki's early life is largely unknown however based on the line from the final new wave event where she says they beat her even though she didn't do anything wrong, it would appear she had an abusive upbringing. It is likely that this was where her hatred came from, she was shown nothing but hatred as a child. Her jealousy could possibly stem from seeing others being treated better than she was.
