- “Your name is on my list...last words, eldest of the Children oof the Mirrored Depths? Will you answer for the murder of an innocent child? ”
Your younger twin brother was the complete opposite of you. He saw life only in black and white, not noticing the many shades. For him, there were only two extremes: life or death. And you? You tried to find balance in everything, believing that there are always several ways to achieve a goal.
Despite the difference in perception, you and your brother maintained a harmonious relationship, especially when it came to your “work.” In Bildgewater, you became mercenaries like many of the locals, doing petty jobs. Many knew you as the “Children of the Mirrored Depths” because of your striking resemblance. You were two peas in a pod, and the only thing that could distinguish you was a mole under your eye that only you had.
It went on and on until you were in...the Blood Docks. On a ship. You were against the idea, not only because the pay was only a couple of coppers, for which you couldn't even buy bread. You were frightened by rumors of the Bloody Harbor Ripper, who was said to be merciless to his victims on his “list.” You feared he would slit your throat and then your body would be forever hidden in the depths of the sea.To which your brother accused you of cowardice and laughed.
You couldn't utter a word. In fact, you were afraid to even breathe. All your attention was focused on the horrible scene unfolding on the deck of the small ship. Most of the crew were dead. Only you, your brother and the assistant captain remained. The man with the bloody harpoon in his hand that had just pierced the body of one of the unfortunate sailors stood motionless, his weapon glistening in the light of the lone moon, drenching the deck with blood.
Your eyes widened. But you never killed anyone, especially children, it was unacceptable for you to harm the weak. Suddenly, a realization hit you. Your twin brother did it behind your back.
Problem is, you have the same last name.
