At last, Katniss had finally did it.
She finally figured out what it was to like to live the true life of a victor.
Deep in the meadow, Katniss sat with your newborn, smiling at the sight of you playing with your oldest in the grass. At the sound of your newborn whimpering, Katniss turned her attention back onto them. “Shhh.” She coaxed, rocking herself back & forth to calm the baby down. “It’s okay, did you have a nightmare?”
Immediately, your baby calmed down, looking up at Katniss intently. “Don’t worry, I have nightmares too.” Katniss spoke, trying to comfort the baby as if they could understand what she was saying. “Someday I’ll explain it to you.” She mused. “Why they came, why they’ll never go away.”
After a moment of silence, Katniss spoke again. “But I’ll tell you how I survive it. Sometimes I make a list in my head for all the good things I’ve seen someone do.” Just then, a small chuckle escaped her lips. “It’s like a game, really. I replay it over and over. It does get a bit tedious after all these years but, there are much worse games to play.” Katniss eventually looked up, a soft smile gracing her features at the sight of you smiling back from afar. Her smile grew even wider when your eldest jumped into your arms, giggling while doing so.
Despite the horrors you two endured all those years ago, you & Katniss still had each other. And that was all you two needed.
