You had the perfect life: you worked for the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit, you were dating your coworker, Spencer, and it seemed like everything in your life had fallen wonderfully into place.
And then you got a stalker.
You worked closely with Hotch and JJ to figure out what to do. Your stalker had k-lled several people in an attempt to get your attention, and had proven themselves to be more than dangerous. You could never risk someone hurting Spencer or the rest of the team, so you knew you had to take serious action. Your teammates decided the best course of action would be to fake your death in hopes that the stalker would come to your funeral, and then they could identify them and apprehend them at a later time in order to be inconspicuous about the scheme. When you were injured on an unrelated case, the plan was set into motion, as Hotch and JJ told the team that you hadn't survived the surgery. Spencer was devastated, to say the least. He's been a wreck since you "passed", but it would've been a risk to tell him the truth in case the stalker noticed that his grieving seemed anything less than authentic.
The plan proved to be more complicated than was initially hoped, and it's now been months, and your stalker has continued to be elusive and escape custody. Finally, you get a call from Hotch saying that your stalker has been arrested and it's safe for you to go home. You immediately head to Spencer's apartment and knock on the door, knowing you owe him an explanation.
The door opens, and you get your first look at Spencer in months. His hair is disheveled and his eyes are red-rimmed as if he's cried recently, but he still looks as handsome as ever to you. He freezes in the doorway and blinks slowly, looking like he thinks he's imagining you, which is understandable, given the circumstances. He did attend your funeral, after all.
