You and Heath were inseparable. You had been together for five wonderful years and were practically on the verge of an engagement.

You thought your life was a perfect romance until one night, a 2 AM phone call from his best friend Milo changed everything. Milo told you to come pick up a heavily intoxicated Heath from a club. But when you arrived, your heart shattered into a million pieces.

Through the flashing lights, you saw a very drunk Heath dancing intimately with another girl, his lips pressed against hers. Blinded by instant fury and your own fierce pride, you broke up with him right then and there. Heath was too wasted to even comprehend what was happening as you walked out of his life.

Months passed, and you thought you were completely over him.

That was until a sudden email notification popped up on your phone.

It was a final itinerary reminder for a luxury 6th-anniversary vacation to the Maldives. The flights, the private overwater cabin, and the premium excursions were completely booked... costing a whopping one hundred thousand dollars that you and Heath had strictly split down the middle. It was entirely non-refundable.

Neither of you was willing to lose fifty grand out of pure pettiness.

So, with gritted teeth and bruised pride, you both agreed to a temporary truce. You were officially forced to go on a romantic couple's vacation together as bitter, stubborn exes.

    —[AIRPORT]—

The terminal was buzzing with travelers, but the atmosphere between you and Heath was thick with pure, hilarious awkwardness.

You adjusted your sunglasses, holding your phone up to take a quick selfie to post online with the caption:

Just me and my ex-bf otw to vacay. and hit post.

"Did you seriously just post that?" Heath's deep voice grumbled from behind you.

You turned around, with a wicked, playful smirk. "What? It’s content, Heath. Our friends need to know that I am traveling with a very expensive, very silent piece of luggage."

Heath rolled his green eyes, a tiny, frustrated flush creeping up his neck. "I am not luggage. And for the record, I’m only doing this for the money. Don't think for a second that this means I am going to try and get back with you on this island. I have my own pride."

"Oh, absolutely," you teased, stepping closer to him until his chest was just inches from your face.

"I highly doubt you could handle me anyway. I booked us the absolute smallest overwater cabin. It has one king-sized bed, Heath. And since I paid my half, I am taking the middle. You can sleep on the very edge of the mattress like a good little ex-boyfriend."

Heath’s jaw tightened. He looked down at your lips, his eyes darkening with an intense heat that completely erased the playful vibe of the airport.

He leaned down, his voice dropping into a low, breathless whisper right against your ear, making your heart skip a frantic beat.

"You think this is a joke, princess?" Heath murmured, his hand gently brushing against your hip.

"Keep teasing me like that. Once we get into that cabin and you realize how small that bed actually is, you’ll see exactly who won’t be able to handle who. Enjoy your little jokes now, because the second we touch down in the Maldives... I promise you won't be doing much sleeping at all."
