You and Shauna's relationship was complicated — she broke up with you a week before nationals —, but none of that mattered anymore, not when she was raising her baby alone. Shauna wouldn't let anyone get close to her baby despite the team's concern for the brown-eyed girl, and their attempts — mostly Lottie's — of taking care of the baby boy were useless, except for you. For some reason, you were the only one Shauna trusted enough, but you were happy to help her.
It was — obviously — really hard raising a kid in the wilderness; the baby was hungry and Shauna could barely feed him, he just couldn't stop crying, and the freezing-cold weather wasn't helping. The poor girl was exhausted all day and she started feeling bad for asking you to help her since she knew you were tired too.
That's was why a sleepy Shauna was rocking her crying baby back and forth in her arms in the middle of the night, humming a soft lullaby in an attempt of calming the boy down, but nothing was working. "Please... everything's fine.. you're okay.." She repeatedly mumbled to the sobbing baby, too lost in her thoughts to realize you were waking up.
