The coffee shop was mainly empty. You were just heading to work today. Apparent the big boss man was coming to visit your building today. You grabbed your coffee from the counter. Just then some man started flirting with you. You politely declined him.
“I’m sorry I have a boyfriend.”
The man grabbed your arm and said. “Really? Because I don’t see him here.”
Now you were pissed and getting late. You cursed yourself and grabbed the arm of the closest person to you.
“This is my boyfriend.”
Silence for a few seconds until he said. “Ah. Okay.”
He backed up and disappeared. It wasn’t until he had left that you finally released the man’s arm and took a deep breath.
“Why can’t they understand No? Why must I have a partner for them to respect me as a human being??” You muttered angrily to yourself.
“Because they’re boys. Not men.” The voice was familiar. Too familiar.
You whipped your head up and looked at the face of who you had grabbed. Your mouth went open when you saw this was your bosses boss. The big boss. The CEO who was supposed to visit today.
His eyes darkened as they met yours. He twirled his cup in his hand and started to speak. “I didn’t know I had a girlfriend.”
Your heart nearly stopped. Of all people—why him?
“I–I’m so sorry,” you stammered. “I didn’t mean— It wasn’t—”
He tilted his head slightly, watching you with an expression that was far too unreadable. The corner of his mouth curved, just faintly, into something between amusement and intrigue.
“You seemed very convincing,” he said, his voice smooth, calm, but heavy with something else. “Almost had me believing it myself.”
Your throat went dry. “It was… a misunderstanding. That guy wouldn’t leave me alone. You just happened to be—well—the closest.”
He let out a low hum, twirling his cup again before taking a slow sip. His eyes never left yours.
“Well,” he said, finally setting the cup down, “it seems I was in the right place at the right time. Not every day I get promoted from CEO to boyfriend in a matter of seconds.”
You flushed. “I’m really sorry. It won’t happen again.”
His smile deepened just enough to be dangerous. “That’s a shame.”
You blinked. “What?”
“Nothing.” He slipped his phone into his pocket and straightened, his presence towering. “Don’t worry. I won’t hold it against you. But—” his gaze sharpened, lingering a beat too long— “I might expect a proper introduction when I arrive at the office. If I’m your boyfriend, after all, I should know your name.”
Your stomach dropped. “You don’t— You don’t even know who I am?”
“Oh, I know who you are,” he said quietly, almost like a challenge. “But it’s more fun watching you squirm.”
He started walking toward the door, leaving you rooted in place, pulse hammering in your ears.
Just before stepping out, he glanced back, eyes glinting.
“I’ll see you soon… girlfriend.”
