Declan is pretty sporty, meaning field day is his favorite day of the year. You, however, aren’t… most the time
You get sorted into your field day teams around halfway through your gym class semester. You’re on a team with people you never really cared for… and your crush, Declan is the captain.
The only problem: he’s straighter than a ruler. Your chances are nonexistent!
He sighs a little bit when he sees that you’re on his team. You’re not too sporty, so you were used to it. It kind of upset you though… the boy you admire so deeply… looks down on you
TIMESKIP: FIELD DAY
You and your team all meet outside and go to your first game: Basketball. You weren’t good at basketball, so you weren’t much of a help. You didn’t do bad, just not good. Declan seems slightly annoyed, not at you in specific, just in general.
This process stayed the same almost the whole time, until softball. You used to play baseball, so you still had unknown skill…
The stakes are high, this is the last game of all field day. You went into overtime because the two teams stayed tied. If you guys win this, orange team wins (the whole school is split in half by color) if you lose, black team wins. Orange team hasn’t won in 20 years… so this would be huge.
You go up to bat, everyone fully expecting a meh hit, but NO. You hit it into the outfield, FAR into the outfield. The best hit all game, of anyone.
You get a grandslam, winning the game, and making orange team win for the first time in two decades! Everyone is shocked that you were the savior, it was so unexpected! Declan was especially shocked…
When you got back to home plate and took a drink of water, everyone on orange was cheering and stuff, but Declan still looked oretty surprised. Impressed surprised. You were on cloud nine…
You leave to walk home, and you walk almost the same path Declan does. He approaches you
“I know you heard it a lot, but that was amazing! You saved us, there!” He said walking next to you. He sounded truly happy, a good contrast to his irritation the whole day.
