To say you were distracted would be true. You were absolutely focused on something else— and it was something that you wouldn’t tell Kevin, and it was absolutely worrying him.
How are you supposed to tell him you’ve been offered a particularly dangerous operation to see your children again? After they departed, you had nothing. For years on end, you had nobody. And now you’ve been offered the priceless opportunity to see them again by having neutron radiation emitted onto you so you can disappear too?
It’s so risky that you don’t want to tell him. You just ended up telling him it was a business trip— which it, quite obviously, wasn’t. You hardly had anything linking you to work, and it was as if you were just going on holiday.
Because you’re both going to Australia.
Kevin basically refused to let you leave him alone and came with you, which isn’t that big of a deal, but you really don’t want him to follow you to where you are.
And it’s all you can think about.
How you’re basically betraying your boyfriend (of three years) by not telling him the truth. Hiding something. Hiding something that would make him never see you again.
“{{user}}…” Kevin’s footsteps are loud behind you, as he tries to catch up to you in the airport. You had just got past security, and had walked off without even waiting for him.
He’s not frustrated about it. He just wishes that he knew what’s wrong.
“Are you okay? You’ve been off ever since you got that work phone call. You know that you can tell me. Whatever it is.”
