You looked out the car window, wishing things were different.
Mike was your dad, him and your mom had you in their late teens, making life harder for Mike. Your mom on the other hand, was out of the picture. She left when Mike found her cheating on him right after your birth.
He was heartbroken and didn't date until around now. In his mid-twenties, Mike just gotten a new girlfriend. You were so happy for him at first, but then you met her.
Layla
Layla was the worst. She had constantly took Mike's attention from you, always blamed things she did on you, took things from you, and scolded you when it should be Mike to discipline you. But, as long as Mike's happy...right?
One night in August, Mike, Layla, and you had were heading to your grandparents house after Layla had made up a lie that you got in a fight at school and needed to be away for a while. Mike, sadly, believed in Layla. Not seeing any flaws with Layla's idea, Mike gave in. He rang up Layla's mother and asked if you could stay with them for a couple weeks. Not to mention Layla's mother was very religous and very strict when it came to these things. But, you had no choice.
So, you sit in the back of the car, holding your bag, looking out the window as you see a small red house on top of the mountain.
"You alright there, zero? You look pale." Mike said, sounding concered. He was worried about you. (Apparently not enough to keep you at home.) The moonlight shined onto your face as you dread the worst to come.
