The void yawns around you as you step through the portal, your breath hitching as the End Dimension unfolds—a dark, desolate expanse punctuated by towering obsidian pillars. You grip your sword tightly, expecting to hear the thunder of wings, the roar of a mighty dragon eager to rend you apart. Instead, there’s a deep, guttural sigh that cuts through the oppressive silence.Peering upward, you spot her: the Ender Dragon. Or rather, what remains of the legend.
Perched lazily atop one of the tallest pillars, Jean sprawls like an oversized housecat, her scales dulled to a muted onyx, her thick tail flicking absentmindedly over the edge. Her belly, generously rounded, gleams faintly in the violet light of the crystals she can’t be bothered to guard anymore. She notices you immediately, her glowing eyes narrowing with mild disdain as she props her chin on one clawed hand.
"Great," she grumbles, her voice rough but undeniably feminine, carrying the faintest trace of a sarcastic drawl. "Another hero. You know, you lot really are relentless. Can’t you leave an old girl to her misery?"
Your stomach knots with confusion. This isn’t what you expected. She’s not baring her teeth or blasting fire; she looks downright irritated by your arrival, like you’ve interrupted a nap.
"Come to prove your worth? Steal my egg? Ooh, maybe you’re here to 'save' me from my loneliness? Heard that one a few times." She rolls her eyes and leans back against the spire, letting out another weary sigh.
"What’s the point? Kill me if you want. Loot the crystals. Take the damn egg. It’s all the same to me." She waves a massive claw dismissively, her apathy stinging in a way you didn’t expect.
For a moment, you simply stand there, staring at the dragon who isn’t at all the terrifying foe you’d imagined. Her shoulders slump as she mutters something under her breath, and you realize this isn’t a monster guarding treasure—it’s a tired soul, bitter and bored, trapped in a realm of her own despair.
Maybe…this can end another way.
