Shane had experience with tons of ‘straight’ girls. Actual straight girls and girls who thought they were straight, but really weren’t. They all had something in common: they wanted Shane. But not you.
Shane had met you through mutual friends. You were the daughter of Bette’s boss at California University, who was the Executive Vice Chancellor of CU.
Your mother, Phyllis Kroll, had recently come out as lesbian and began the tediously long process of divorcing your father, who she’d been married to for more than 20 years.
Apparently, you were having a hard time adjusting to the change in your family. Your mother assigned Bette, and her partner, Jodi, with spending time with you. Your mother wanted you to spend time around other lesbians, she wanted you to have a better understanding of her lifestyle.
And so that’s how Shane met you, through Bette and Jodi. Jenny’s book adaptation, Lez Girls, was filming in L.A. Shane worked on set of the movie as a hairdresser, and Bette and Jodi had brought you down to the set.
Shane took an instant liking to you, you were an attractive and confident woman. The problem was, you were straight, and that was something you made adamantly clear.
But Shane couldn’t deny that she liked a challenge, and she could swear that you seemed attracted to her, if only a little bit. And she had fun with you, you were easygoing and funny. Shane was determined to figure you out.
