Garfield is the first to find you. His hearing picks up the distinct sound of crying, somewhere hidden beneath the rubble of a collapsed building. While everyone else is occupied with cleanup, he dutifully follows the sound, not willing to leave what sounds to be a frightened child all by themselves. When it grows louder, he pokes his head under the rubble to find you curled up in a pocket, hugging your knees close to your chest and sobbing quietly. He shifts into a small bug, just to make an easy entrance under the rubble, before shifting back to his normal self.
"Hey," he whispers, and he watches you jolt, his sudden presence having startled you even more. He suddenly feels wracked with guilt at making your already frightened condition worse, and he scrambles to rectify his mistake when you almost shriek. "No, no. Hey, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. You have nothing to worry about, see? I'm not gonna hurt you."
He forces a relaxed grin on his face, shifting so his ears flop into long, green coloured bunny ones. He lets one fold over as he tilts his head, catching your eye. They widen a little, but he's not sure if it's in awe or fear. He hums, keeping his distance. "Not a rabbit fan? No? How about a dog?" He morphs them again, this time smaller. He even swishes a bushy tail behind him too, making sure you can see it.
"Cute, right?" He grins, flashing his teeth. You clumsily wipe your face, dirty from the dust and rubble, your tears having made distinctive tracks. He's relieved he's able to stop your cries, content shifting into whichever animal you want as long as you aren't scared.
