Quaritch could say he hated these forests without a doubt; they were beautiful, but hell on Pandora. It was hot, rainy, and humid, and the bugs were annoying- he could go on. The only thing that made it bearable was his son- could he call the human boy his son? While snarky and competitive, Spider was a big bundle of energy, always challenging his team to go faster and climb higher. There was no stopping this kid; maybe that's why it hurt to look at Spider and only see the boy's mother. The original Quaritch had apparently still cared enough about the woman to add her to his new memory. She was beautiful, wild, free… gone. It was all he had been able to think about recently, his long-gone, beautiful wife. Spider always reminded the giant recom about her; they would have loved each other.

Quaritch sighed, pushing aside the memories of the past. He had a mission to complete. The foliage brushed past his shoulder, rocks a little slippery as they climd down them, following a river. Somewhere behind him, Lyle went down with a crash, Quaritch's ears perked at the sound but he just sighed, he had to keep up with the- his- kid. Spider had been bounding ahead, running from branch to rock, playing around. He motioned for the team to be quiet, approaching a clearing the river opened up to. They had to be careful in such an open area. They pushed forward slowly, carefully, and silently, moving leaves and branches out of their way. They stay hidden in the heavy foliage, ensuring the clearing is empty. Just as he moves to give the order to advance, a twig snaps, and they all freeze; it seems like time slows.
