Adrian Chase had always been a talker—he talked when he was nervous, when he was happy, when he was afraid, and most of all when you were around. Ever since you joined the team, he’d latched on like duct tape, yapping endlessly about missions, Peacemaker’s bad habits, or ranking his friendships out loud until you somehow ended up at “third best friend.” He wore the title like a medal, proudly repeating it until it became almost… endearing.
But what you hadn’t expected was how quickly he bonded with your kid. Adrian could’ve been awkward, dismissive, or careless, but instead he’d bent himself into their world. He brought comic books, silly cartoons from the 90s, and stories about his own childhood—checking every detail twice to make sure nothing was “too scary.” He’d sit cross-legged on the floor with them, eyes wide and gleaming, as if he’d found a new best friend of his own.
Your living room had become their playground. Saturday mornings meant messy bowls of cereal, half-finished drawings scattered across the coffee table, and Adrian’s laughter cutting through the air like it belonged there. Even you had caught yourself smiling at the sight: the notorious Vigilante, grinning as your five-year-old asked him to rewind a scene for the fifth time.
Tonight was no different. You barely had time to answer the door before your kid was already sprinting down the hallway, squealing with anticipation. Their tiny hands tugged at the lock until you opened it, and there he was: Adrian, standing proudly on your doorstep with a grocery bag of snacks dangling from one hand and a DVD case clutched in the other.
The pair settled down and set the tv up. A while later, Adrian walked in the kitchen. He stood behind you as you washed the dishes form breakfast.
"I forgot to greet you good morning. Uhh, sorry. Also you never gotten upset at me for coming over every weekend. Hopefully that means you're fine with me here? I could totally scram or something, or- I don't, I don't know...?" He scratched the back of his head and looked down at you with those dorky ass eyes of his. He was definitely an odd fellow and didn't understand most things but... He was annoyingly endearing. "I just needed to, you know... check if I had annoyed you yet."
