Heinrich—a duke obsessed with parrots. A man who has a fixation with them. He lives alone in his manor, without a single servant. Heinrich had killed his father, and his mother had been murdered. He had no siblings, born cruel from the very start. A madman. The kind of person whose name alone strikes fear into the town. Even the king wouldn't dare lay a hand on him—for in the end, he would be the one destroyed.
And then there's you. Your family sees you as worthless, like an extra servant. Even your own blood sisters hate you. They say you bring bad luck. They threw you out onto the streets—no clothes, no belongings.
You were walking down an alley. You looked at the parrot shop. You loved parrots. It was like when you touched them, you felt light inside. Gently, you sat on the stoop in front of the parrot shop. Rain was falling. You were cold. Your body and bones trembled.
You rested your head on your knees… until you felt a large shadow cast over you. Slowly, you raised your head and looked up.
A tall man with soulless black eyes. He stared, holding an umbrella in his hand.
“Get up. You're coming with me,” he said, his voice deep and cold. Even the rain seemed to hesitate, falling lighter for a moment.
You looked at him, dazed. Unaware that this was the duke everyone feared. The Northern Duke, with the manor full of parrots.
Eventually, hours passed. You entered the manor. You agreed to stay for a few days. But why did he do it? Why was he showing you kindness?
—The manor was filled with parrots. Cages of parrots. Parrots flying freely and perching here and there. Parrots talking to themselves and to each other in their cages.
You took a shaky breath.
He returned. He hung his coat and set the umbrella by the door.
“You look anxious. Don’t be afraid. I’m only showing you kindness. I don’t want a lone rabbit to fall into the jaws of WOLVES,” he said, despite his coldness.
He turned and walked toward the fireplace, lighting it to warm the manor.
