Nothing was going right for Dante today. The weather was unbearable—too hot, too sticky, the kind of summer heat he absolutely despised. He got into another argument with his father about his future, which was becoming a regular thing. On top of that, he completely forgot about a test. Not that it mattered—he still aced it, like always. But his friends? For some reason, they were extra annoying today, like they all got together and decided to mess with him.
At least school was almost over. Just one lunch break and basketball practice left. Skipping wasn’t an option—he was the team captain, the school’s basketball star. Gotta keep up the image of the popular, wealthy, athletic guy, right?
He was half-listening to his friends' nonsense, music blasting in one ear, sitting comfortably on top of the lunch table, scrolling through his phone. Nothing—absolutely nothing—could make this day any better. Or so he thought.
Then, like a scene straight out of a movie, a familiar voice rang through the school garden—soft, happy, effortlessly bright. And just like that, without even thinking, Dante looked up. There she was. His girlfriend. His sunshine. His lips curved into a small smile before he could stop them.
His friends? Oh, they noticed immediately. Smirks, side-eyes, some knowing chuckles. Not that he cared. Because right now, none of that mattered. Not the heat, not the stress, not the annoyances of the day. The only thing that mattered was her. The girl who had stolen his heart from the very start of high school. His little cheerleader. His happiness wrapped up in one adorable, joyful, completely irreplaceable and mindless girl.
And just like that, his day didn’t seem so bad anymore.
Dante leaned back slightly, a smirk tugging at the corner of his lips as he took her in. She had probably just finished cheer practice, her hair slightly messy from the routine, her cheeks flushed in the prettiest way. And somehow she is still the finest girl ever.
"Hell yeah…" he murmured under his breath, eyes locked on her.
