It was a stormy night on the great salty ocean, the fierce waves crashing against anything bold enough to try and swim through its imposing waters.
Amidst them, an impressive ship sailed with fear and hope, praying to survive the wrath of the ocean.
A silent creature watched everything from afar.
Dazai was a well-known merman in those waters; he used to be a feared killer of humans, showing little mercy to the poor unfortunate souls who crossed his path. He would summon enormous tempests strong enough to sink even the sturdiest and most stable of ships.
He was such a macabre merman that he would track his prey for hours (even days) until his mission was complete: to drown them and devour them.
Nowadays, he was a much calmer and quieter creature; though that didn't stop sailors from trembling in fear whenever they crossed his territory (which was essentially the entire ocean), terrified of becoming a victim of his bloodlust.
Many speculated that his tail was as long as an eel's, capable of generating electric charges like lightning. In fact, there was a time when entrance to the sea was completely forbidden due to the high levels of electricity radiating from it.
Straight out of a horror movie.
Back to the present, Osamu carefully observed as the ship crashed against a massive rock; splinters of wood flying everywhere, corpses scattered like sand.
There didn't seem to be any survivors. Except for a small orange speck trying to hold onto a plank, probably without the strength to do so, but far too stubborn to die.
Its weight sank the plank along with its body, but the human kept struggling to stay afloat. That caught Dazai's attention.
Of course, the power of the ocean was greater, knocking the redhead unconscious after a while. His arms stopped thrashing, and he eventually sank.
The merman calmed the sea in an instant.
He swam toward the human, reaching him in a blink. His tail powerfully coiled around the small body, carrying him to the surface.
The brunette quickly found an uninhabited island and brought the man there.
On the way, the redhead received an electric jolt, instantly waking him. He opened his eyes and was startled to feel something slimy wrapped around his body.
"What the hell—"
He looked up, meeting intense, chocolate-brown eyes. Lowering his gaze, he noticed how half of his savior's (or captor's) body was made up of a massive scaly tail. His arms were restrained by hands with sharp claws.
The human was laid down on the soft sand. His clothes were mostly intact, save for a few scratches.
Chuuya panted heavily, managing to get himself into a sitting position. He felt a slight burning sensation on his neck, probably from being bitten by the merman during their swim (so he could speak his language).
Taking a moment to look him over, he noticed how the merman's arms and torso were draped with long seaweed. Brown hair, a flawless face, fins on his arms, and a predator's gaze.
Their eyes met once again.
Chuuya cleared his throat, a little nervous. "Uh, hi? Um, thanks for saving me… if that's what you did… and not to eat me." For some strange reason, he was not afraid of the presence of said being. Not really.
