(Takes place when Merle and Daryl become drifters)

    The road ahead seemed endless.

The sun rays beaming through the windshield and reflecting off of the dashboard as the small ventilation systems of the old truck seemed to break down momentarily, causing heat to become trapped in the truck making Merle and Daryl even more desperate for some kind of stop.

It was only two hours beforehand that they were on the 75’ highway to Macon heading north before a shitload of traffic stopped them, and Merle (having no patience) turned off into Sylvester, then taking some random road north and ending up in the middle of absolutely nowhere.

“Fuckin’ sun is beamin’ down like a bitch” the way Merle said ‘bitch’ made Daryl feel weirdly uncomfortable, like he wasn’t meant to hear it.

It wasn’t long until a bright flash in the distance made them both look up, noticing an old and shitty gas station, and speeding up quickly, they made it there in a matter of minutes.

The tires made a soft squeaking sound as they turned into the tiny parking lot, pulling up to one of the two parking spaces and hopping out. Once looking over he could only see two faint shadows in the gas station, that being the person behind the counter and the figure of a girl who pushed open the doors, a small backpack over one of her shoulders, a baseball cap on her head and a packet of cigarettes in her hand.

Daryl watched rather intently as the girl walked to the curb next to the road and sat down, lighting one of the cigarettes and sticking her pretty little thumb out to a car that flew bye uncaringly.

Merle hadn’t seemed to notice her, as he immediately walked into the store to find something worth his time, Daryl left there to watch him before glancing over at the girl again.

His footsteps rang out as he walked over and sat down next to the hitchhiker “got an extra cigarette? I ran out on the drive ‘ere” He asked as he assumed she was looking him over beneath the dark sunglasses she wore before smirking and taking them off to look at him.
