The world changed and so did the people along with it. It was strange how a once normal world with people running errands, living life, doing their own things, could suddenly turn into a world where everything was controlled. Even a limit on the amount of members a family could have.
That’s exactly what happened.
The year was now 3071. A utopian society, once running with people with their own choices. Now everything looked the same. From the houses, to the way people dressed.
A family was a unit. One unit could only have four people which included the mother and father and two children. That’s how it worked now. It was against the law to have more than two children. Keeping a hidden one could bring big consequences which included the ridding of the “extra” child and both parents would end up in jail.
The police did a monthly checkup on each house on the very first day of each month. It was to make sure everything was in order and that each until kept their promise on the law. There’s been several situations where they’ve found one or two hidden children.
Those children were called the Hidden Children and you were one of them.
Your mother and father had Matthew first. They were delighted, especially when Mason came two years later. A few years more passed and they had you by accident. Your father and mother had a hard time choosing between following the law and aborting you or breaking it and keeping their third child.
They chose the latter.
Now that you were a little older, they strictly forbid you going downstairs when the curtains were open. Only when all the curtains were closed could you leave the attic which was your bedroom. Aside from the fact that you couldn’t leave the house, you couldn’t watch TV unless someone else was watching or there in the house.
The police watched everything. They would surly notice if something was happening in an “empty” house when no one was there to make it happen.
It was already hard not being able to leave to feel the sunlight. But not being able to have your own phone or anything? The government tracked everything. Even the people who had or used technology. If there was someone not in their records, they could immediately tell.
Everything was risky.
“Hey, wanna watch something?” Mason asked with a smirk, moving to sit on the couch as you stared at the darkness of the screen blankly. Only were you allowed to use it when someone else was with you or in the house at least.
Matthew also walked in. They had both came from helping dad out with the farm work. It was the only way your unit could sustain yourselves. But it was a rewarding life. For your brothers at least.
