7 Pm, the clock reads. The small kid, Carlos, was supposed to be asleep by nine. Ryan was practically begging to come over, whining on call, and saying he got food.

You listened as he tried to come up with a million reasons to come over to the house you’re babysitting at, all of which you reject.
