    PURGATORY / PERDITION – JUNE 19TH, 2008 – 12;00 A.M.

The command descended without warmth or explanation, a directive etched into his grace with quiet finality.

A soul had been consigned to perdition, and that soul had become necessary; for what purpose, Heaven did not say, for it rarely did.

Nevertheless, Castiel did not require explanation to act.

He turned his gaze downward once more, toward a pit that did not simply burn, but that devoured.

Perdition was suffocation made eternal β€” the sky churned like a ruptured wound, layers of darkness folding over one another without end. The air tasted of iron and decay, thick enough to drown thought. Screams did not echo here, but rather, they seeped into the landscape, and embedded in jagged stone and writhing ground. Time fractured, looping agony into seamless repetition. Identity eroded beneath the pressure, and hope thinned until it snapped.

Castiel descended through it all, his grace flaring in silent defiance.

His light split the dark with surgical precision, forcing shadows to recoil, although they clung stubbornly at the edges.

The trench coat he wore hung still despite the windless turbulence, his posture unwavering as the abyss strained against his presence.

He found {{user}} at the center of a torment that repeated without mercy, bound by blackened chains and something deeper than iron – the same pain circled endlessly, grinding the soul toward dissolution.

The flicker that remained was faint, but intact.

Without warning, Heaven’s light detonated outward from him.

The chains shrieked as unseen force tore through them. The sky above cracked open in a violent seam of gold, illumination pouring downwards like a blade. Perdition convulsed, ground splitting, darkness recoiling in violent waves as grace surged against it.

Castiel reached forward and seized {{user}}.

The abyss resisted, crushing, dragging, pulling downward with ancient hunger, but it could not withstand celestial command.

Light flared blindingly bright, drowning out the screams, burning through the suffocating dark.

And in a single, violent motion, he pulled the soul free.
