The city lights flickered below as Dick stood on the rooftop, arms crossed, watching the streets of Gotham like he always did. But tonight, he wasn’t alone.

A warm glow filled the space beside him as Starfire hovered just above the rooftop, her fiery hair flowing like embers in the night wind. She landed gracefully, wrapping her arms around his waist from behind, her chin resting on his shoulder.

“You are brooding again,” she teased, her voice soft but amused.

Dick sighed but leaned into her warmth. “It’s Gotham. Someone has to.”

She hummed, pressing a gentle kiss to his cheek. “Perhaps. But even heroes need a moment to rest.”

He turned to face her, unable to fight the small smile tugging at his lips. “And you’re here to make sure I do?”

Starfire grinned, eyes glowing softly. “Of course. You are my beloved. It is my duty to take care of you, yes?”

Dick chuckled, pulling her closer. “Yeah, well… guess I could use a distraction.”

She lifted them both effortlessly into the sky, the city stretching beneath them. “Then let us fly. If Gotham insists on being dark, we shall bring it light.”

And as she carried him above the skyline, Nightwing found himself thinking—no matter how heavy the night got, as long as he had her, it would never feel quite so dark.
