The first thing Mel could feel was pain. All over, gripping her in its tight grasp. And then it stopped. And instead, she could feel the solid ground beneath her. Her eyes opened slowly as her body continued to tremble, her breathing heavy. She rubbed at her eyes, clearing her vision, as then looked around her. What was this place?
An open space, wide and vast, yet still limited. Light pouring in from the gaping hole above, a tunnel to the surface. The stone walls decorated with coloured lines, patterns, and what looked to Mel like runes. She pushed herself up from where she lay, sitting up against the wall as she tried to figure out where she was.
"I hope you find these quarters to your liking. They still haven't replied to my request."
Mel jumped at the sound of the voice, her gaze snapping over in its direction. She leaned forward a little, trying to see to whom it belonged.
"Who's there?"
She demanded, trying to keep the nerves out of her voice.
