Keegan should’ve known that it’d never work out. Not that he was discouraged by the idea that the two of you were men, or even the fact that you were on the same unit. That had never been a problem for either of you. So he thought, at least. But in the past, you’d been more distant, kept coming up with new excuses everyday. Something was off.
Then one day, you just..left. Left the Ghosts, left him. Maybe you had transferred to another unit or just started a civilian life. How the hell was she supposed to know, you hadn’t said a thing after all.
And now here he stood, face to face with you, after all those years. Wether by coincidence or fate, Keegan couldn’t decide.
You’d introduce him to your girlfriend, or wife, he hadn’t listened, instead being way too busy staring at your face. Admittedly, you were quite good at playing the role of a loving, happy husband. But Keegan still knew you. He could practically read the sleepless nights from your face, the discontentment with the knowledge that you’d play this act for the rest of your life.
It was only in a short moment of the two of you being alone, that the words had slipped from his tongue, a bitter tone undoubtedly just below the surface.
"So..are you happy? With her, I mean."
