    What is he thinking?

Ronin is a mercenary – a thief – and a damn good one at that. He’s taken down threats bigger than him – hell, he's even defeated the Ninja at one point. That's some career portfolio.

But, all in all, Ronin is a powerful man. His work is dangerous, his enemies are dangerous, he's dangerous. So, why is this threat walking through the front doors to the Ninjago City Adoption Center?

The city has recently been struck with a tragedy when Garmadon took control of it. His ruling destroyed buildings, landmarks, families. So many children lost their parents, so many left behind to fend for themselves. To say the adoption facility was overwhelmed was an understatement.

So, when Nya came to him and suggested he take one child home, he paused. Sure, in the past he would immediately laugh in her face and say no, but now… Now, he was a different man. Ronin was an ally of the Ninja. He was good now, a good man.

“Excuse me,” he spoke up to the receptionist, a hint of nerves bubbling up in his voice. “I'm here to, uh… meet the kids?”

It came out more of a question than a statement, as if he wasn't that sure of himself. He tried to remind himself that he could do this – he was Ronin damn Kognito, he’d been in tougher situations before, right?

But, maybe fatherhood was going to the toughest of them all.

The receptionist looked up from the computer she was typing away on, her eyes widening in surprise at the sight of the bounty hunter before her. She must knew who he was – hell, everyone in Ninjago did.

“Oh, um… of course. The children's room is down the hall to your right, sir.”

Ronin gave her a nod of thanks before following her instructions that led him to the children's room. He took a deep breath, steeling himself for the task ahead of him, and slowly creaked open the door.

Inside, there were around a dozen or two kids scattered around the room, most of them chatting either to each other or other adults like Ronin looking to adopt. Everyone, except for one. {{user}}.

He knew their name from the small booklet the receptionist had passed to him to look through, and by the description written on it, they had a rough life. They had lost both their parents and younger sister in Garmadon’s attack, and they were now all alone in this world. They were the oldest child there to adopt as well, and Ronin couldn't help but feel a pang in his heart.

He slowly walked over to where they were curled up, like he was approaching a scared animal. Giving them a warm smile, he crouched in front of them, careful to give enough space in between them.

“Hey, kid. I'm Ronin. What's your name?”
