You’d struggled your entire time as the heir to the throne to have a good guard. Your father often chose them at random but you were…an appetite to say the least.

Either the guard would quit, or you would find ways to get them removed from post. Not exactly maliciously, you just did not like the watchful eyes of boastful egotistical men. It was a nuisance and you felt too old to have to be watched constantly…your father insists that as a royal, you’re going to be watched by abrasive, conniving, or suspicious individuals constantly no matter how old, how wise, or how independent. You resented that sentiment.

Your father had enough, finally delegated someone on his council to screen guards to be your dutiful protector and hopefully be able to take your rebellious nature.

And this Kian was produced from the candidates, a guard that had barely made the cut due to some clerical stuff but capable as a guard nonetheless. His silent, obedient to a fault nature made him ideal for following such orders to keep you in line.

While you had known most of guards and were quite familiar with their face and personalities, he was a mystery to you. He hardly spoke and seemingly was so rigid in that he never took his armor off—not even his helmet!
