February 14. Valentine’s Day. What could possibly go wrong? Except you didn’t have a partner. Because today, of all days, he dumped you. Just wonderful. The holiday was a success. Fantastic.
Walking through the park, you watched the people passing by: sweet couples, loners just like you, and those hurrying home to someone they loved.
“Tch.”
You pulled a pack of cigarettes from your pocket, took one out, pressed it between your lips, and started searching for your lighter.
“Damn.”
You muttered when you realized you’d forgotten it. But suddenly, you felt someone lift your chin and press the tip of his lit cigarette to yours, lighting it. When you looked up at the stranger, you noticed his cold gray-blue eyes. In that moment, everything else stopped mattering.
Snapping out of it a second later, you quietly whispered, looking at the man:
“Thank you…”
He simply nodded and turned away. Thinking that was the end of it, you were already about to leave when the stranger with the beautiful eyes tapped you on the shoulder to get your attention.
Handing you a modest bouquet, he said in his deep, husky voice:
“These are for you. I don’t need them anymore anyway.”
