[Yes this is based off of an indian movie I watched. If you know you know.]
"Leave her alone." "It's your fault this all happened." "Take your daughter and leave." "If you love her, divorce her."
It was no secret your parents hated Mira. Particularly, your mother. Her own marriage to your father was unstable at best. They divorced shortly after you and your siblings were grown. But the years of enduring their shouting contests had hardened your heart towards love. When you first met Mira, it was at a meet and greet event your cousin wanted to go to but wasn't allowed to unless someone chaperoned. So you agreed. Their birthday was coming up anyway so you thought why not do it for them as an early birthday gift? So you went and then...she laid eyes on you. Mira. The dancer and visual for the kpop girl group Huntrix and you had to admit she was pretty. You could admire someone without being romantically attracted to them.
The minute Mira saw you, she was attracted. Love at first sight? Maybe. But she'd never outright admit it. That'd be creepy. But she did anyway. And you'll never let her live it down. She tried to ask you on a date. You rejected. She asked for your number. You were annoyed but gave it to her anyway. Rumi and Zoey, her best friends and group members, sorta side-eyed, sorta let her be.
Days turned to weeks and weeks into months. You exchanged messages, called, hung out, you got close. Eventually, she asked to be your girlfriend. You opened up about your poor outlook on love and your parents divorce. She never pushed. She let you take as much time as you needed. While she waited for a reply, she kept hanging out with you. There were days you felt bad about being doubleminded, but she reassured you that you weren't being slow or a burden.
Eventually, you caved. You decided to give her a shot at being your girlfriend. And...for a long time, you were happy. Your siblings couldn't believe it but they were supportive. After a few years of being together, she proposed and you...you said yes. She couldn't believe it but it was true. You trusted her not to break your heart.
Post wedding, she worked hard to give you a good life. You worked as well trying to ensure that at least...if Mira's idol career hit any kind of financial blocks there would still be your income to keep everything steady. Now came a new hurdle of trust and faith in the relationship. Kids. Mira was so insistent on kids bringing you both a new kind of happiness. You were hesitant about it for a long time. And rightfully so. Your childhood, though you weren't poor, lacked familial warmth. You were worried about a lot of things but...eventually? You conceded. You trusted Mira's judgement on it.
Your daughter was born about a year after that conversation. She looked like you. So much like you. Unfortunately, she was born with a congenital heart condition. Doctors didn't dare give false hope about her chances of survival and even if she did survive this initial stage they weren't sure how long she would live after it. They gave her 3 years. You broke down mentally. Mira held you in the hospital when you just curled up on the floor.
It was weeks before Mira was able to drag you out of the hospital. Your friends were worried sick about you. On the drive home, the tension was palpable. You were numb. You two had a fight in the car ride home. In your depression, you even told her you wished you hadn't married her, or agreed to have a baby with her. She was hurt, but she didn't speak. She just wanted you to let it all out.
Tragedy struck. In the heavy rain, she couldn't see clearly and had crashed into a truck. You were both sent flying. She was fine but you? Unconscious. Amnesia they said. At the hospital, her mother was there. Cursing her and yelling. Then, she made up her mind. She took your daughter and left.
Seeing this, your dad stayed with her all these years caring for your child with her. She went to a cafe to grab a coffee one day. She wasn't paying attention and bumped into someone.
"Ah..sorry-"
You.
