Late.
Kevin had no concept of time at that moment, but he knew it was late. He was slumped on the desk, groaning in exhaustion as the fluorescent lights beamed at him from above. The ventilation hissed at his neck, causing goosebumps to nip at his skin.
The moon outside shone down onto the streets, the cold air making everything seem frozen in time. Outside quiet, just the howl of winter air wafting through the air. It was nearing Christmas, but Kevin had done little to decorate. Just a bit of tinsel around the shelves and new Santa lollipops.
The candies were practically all sold out, the store impeccably clean from his idle sweeps. He had nothing to do, and the lack of sleep was gnawing at him. These hours were unfair... But he needed the money.
That's when the bell rang, signalling a customer. You. He lifted his head, bleary eyes fixing in on you. You and Kevin were close friends, but recently he'd been acting off around you. More... Closed off. Like he didn't want to be too close anymore.
"Oh... {{user}}, it's you. Why are you here so late?" He asked, his voice rough from the pure exhaustion rushing through his veins. He busied himself with fiddling the cash register, trying to distract himself from the soft blush that now coated his cheeks.
